John Drennan: FG single-party government 'possible'

In spite of public denials, top level Fine Gael strategists are secretly eyeing up the possibility of a single-party Fine Gael government which might be supported either by the Greens, independents or a heavily defeated Fianna Fail party.

Up to three months ago Fine Gael was still engaged in a life and death struggle with Labour over who would lead the next government.

But a sustained swing towards the party, which was confirmed by this Sunday Independent/ MillwardBrown poll, means strategists now privately admit that the possibility of a single-party Fine Gael government is "beginning to stir into life''.
