Government funds provided to An Taisce for its 'Green Schools Travel Programme' were spent on items which included a gift of a bottle of champagne and beer for a staff Christmas party, an internal review has revealed.
Now the National Transport Authority (NTA), which funds the programme run by An Taisce to encourage children to walk or cycle to school, has raised ''serious concerns'' about the manner in which the programme has been run.
The purpose of the review was to provide an independent opinion on the adequacy and effectiveness of the control An Taisce maintained over "the delivery of funded services and the associated financial control arrangements''.
