John Drennan: A man who loved not wisely, but too well
One of the hoary old cliches we most often reach for when a political career goes down in flames is Walter Scott's famous observation of "Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practise to deceive".
The irony, of course, is that even as the always-brittle edifice of his presidential bid fell around him, David Norris was not guilty of that sin. Or, to put it another way, the only person David Norris deceived in this campaign was David Norris.
Others, and in particular his retreating supporters, will feel differently. The revelations about the role he played in attempting to mitigate the consequences of the actions of his former partner Ezra Yizhak Nawi will be judged harshly.
