Ireland's Thirtysomethings: Spiteful voters could yet derail Enda's pink agenda

We may be progressive about gay marriage, according to the latest poll, but a referendum could backfire, writes John Drennan

Today's INM/Today FM Behaviour & Attitudes poll suggests that a fair wind is waiting to drive the Government's plans for gay marriage and adoption.

Certainly when it comes to the 20- to 40-year-old generation, were Carlsberg looking to hold a "probably the most progressive country in the world" test Ireland would be one of the likely winners.

Scarcely 20 years has passed since Ireland nervously decriminalised homosexuality while three years later, the defining image of the bitter divorce referendum consisted of the screams of 'go home you wife-swapping liberals'.
