Just what are they afraid of?
THIS is not encouraging. Five years after the implosion of the Irish banking system and the authorities continue to ponder how and why it happened. We do not even know the shape of a long-promised banking inquiry.
Meanwhile, the authorities want to know how ordinary people finally got some clues about the anatomy of our financial disaster.
Yesterday Finance Minister Michael Noonan told us there will be an inquiry into how the Irish Independent got the Anglo Irish Bank tapes. The revelations were infuriating.
