Howlin tries to laugh off Fine Gael's repeated forays into Labour territory
Among Labour's unappreciated achievements in government was the transformation of Fine Gael wunderkind, Leo Varadkar, into a "social democrat".
So said Labour's Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin yesterday as he made light and airy of questions about Fine Gael's increasing forays into Labour Party political territory as the General Election approaches.
In the past week, Enda Kenny became the "workers' pal" with a flavour of policies to appeal to the low-paid. And he also sent out ever-so-slight liberal signals on future alterations to the Eighth Amendment on abortion.
