Few can do 'tea and sympathy' like Simon Harris but that's no use

Simon Harris makes the sweetest and most heart-felt apologies. His youthful appearance and unfailingly courteous demeanour have helped extend the "honeymoon period" granted most ministerial newcomers.

He has approached the job of Health Minister, since he was appointed on May 6 last year, with the trademark energy and commitment he has brought to his politics. But as we have watched the scandal of waiting lists unfold this week, we have also seen things come crashing down around the 30-year-old Wicklow TD with an unceremonious thud.

The brutal reality is that there is a "waiting list" to get on the "official waiting list".
