Why, when I go abroad, am I ashamed to be Irish?

The Irish Independent's Graham Clifford had a horrifyingly riveting piece in this paper last Saturday about his time in Australia – horrifying, riveting and, sadly, all too familiar.

So many young Irish kids go completely mental when they get over there that we are developing a reputation – sorry we have already developed a reputation – as a bunch of ignorant, alcoholic savages who seem to count having a fight as an essential ingredient to having an enjoyable night out.

So why are our young people so out of control?
