A long time ago, a friend of a friend went to London for an abortion.

She wasn't long out of school. She was too young. She didn't have a relationship with the guy who got her pregnant and it's fair to say she lived in the kind of domestic arrangement which would not have been improved by the addition of a child.

It was a tough decision for her, but it was the right one at the time and it remains the right one now. She weighed up her options and decided the boat trip made sense and the few of us who knew about her predicament supported her in whatever way we could. That's what friends do.
