We're used to rock stars, even minor ones, engaging in all sorts of debauched behaviour that, if carried out by the rest of us, would result in immediate personal catastrophe.

That's one of the joys of being in a band, so when the name of Ian Watkins, front man with The Lostprophets, first surfaced in allegations of underage sexual activity, most people would simply have assumed that this was another case of a bloke in a band engaging in his own homage to the backstage antics of Motley Crue.

Except this was worse than the usual weird rock and roll pecadillos, and involved allegations of child abuse stretching back five years, which has shone a rather uncomfortable spotlight on the Welsh police, who are accused of doing nothing.
