In an increasingly atomised society, where people find it ever more difficult to make a genuine human connection with those around them, it makes perfect sense that more and more Irish people are turning to dating agencies.
Just think of the benefits -- you make a list of things you like, and the kind of person you would like to meet and then you wait for someone to reciprocate.
Granted, that poses certain problems. As I have written before, if I were to list my interests, that would involve Nazis and sharks and I'm not sure I want to meet the kind of woman who is into World War Two memorabilia and the possibility that Megalodon Carcharodon could still possibly exist in the Mariana Trench. But that's just me.
