The reaction to Gerry Ryan's awful demise has made certain elements of the country take a long, hard look at themselves, and about time, too.
His death had a seismic effect on Irish society and that was only to be expected; indeed, welcomed.
He had, after all, touched a lot of lives and was one of the most remarkable men of his generation; someone who revolutionised broadcasting.
