Ian O'Doherty: Sadly, not all pooches have the owners they deserve

It's just me and my two dogs, Molly and Sam and it's about 9 in the evening. We're out on our last walk and we're enjoying one of those strange and beautiful moments of pure quiet that you sometimes get in the city -- there are no cars on the main road, nobody else is around and there isn't even the sound of a plane in the sky.
In fact, the only discernible sound is the gentle crunch of the grass as the evening frost begins to take hold.
It's one of those almost transcendentally relaxing moments -- you, the dogs and your thoughts, such as they are.
