Ian O'Doherty: Church -- it's bad for your health

One of the abiding memories I have as a kid is being quizzed every Monday morning in school by a particularly religious teacher.
It used to bug me even then, and while I couldn't articulate it properly at the time, the idea of some stranger -- and in this particular case a particularly sadistic stranger who would have been a lot happier if he had simply admitted he was gay and started going to The George -- thinking it was any of his business what I did at the weekend was both baffling and infuriating.
But it would appear that my childhood reluctance to go to Mass was actually quite a prescient, nay scary, prediction of what would emerge years later -- going to Mass is bad for your health.
