One of the perks of this job is that you get to meet a wide variety of people.

Some of them are fascinating. Some are amusing. Some are simply terrible human beings. But never have I met a bunch of people who manage to combine humility with immense self-sacrifice and dedication in quite the same way as those volunteers who try to rescue Ireland's unwanted animals.

We like to think we're a nation of animal lovers, but then again what Western society doesn't?
