Winner takes it all in West Bank - but keeping it is harder
'The winner takes it all.' The title of that particular ditty from the Abba songbook, way back when, has been dawdling around in my sub-conscious these past couple of weeks.
The unlikely prompt for this trip down music's memory lane is the never-ending squabble between the Israelis and their ever-present in-house neighbours, the Palestinians.
In the traumatised world which passes for the norm in the Middle East, the term "in-house neighbour" just might be one of the best ways to describe these two tribes, who live in a tiny strip of land the size of Munster.
