WE know now perhaps far too much about so many of their extra marital trysts, such as the furtive liaison John Fitzgerald Kennedy and his brother Robert had at different times with screen sex symbol Marilyn Monroe.

And we know many of the uncomfortable hard-wired facts surrounding the death of a young party worker, Mary Jo Kopechne, who drowned when a car driven by an inebriated Ted Kennedy slid off a narrow bridge in Chappaquiddick.

And yet, when we look at some of the old black-and-white movies of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy's visit to Ireland 50 years ago this month, we are reminded once again how grace and charm can beguile us all.
