Humble pie could be daily fare dished up to wafer-thin Government

It's just as well for Enda that he was over in the US doing a bit of tree planting this week.

He could even spend time wooing the ever-smiling American vice-president, Joe Biden, and persuade him to visit the ould sod, to check out some family roots in the Taoiseach's home patch of County Mayo.

But apart from the uplift in the mood wrought by yesterday's announcement of 3,000 new houses to be built in Dublin, back at base it was a miserable, and portentous, week for his Government.
