Gerard O'Regan: Merkel needs to wise up and join in the spying game

ALL the self-righteous nonsense generated by the bugging of Angela Merkel's mobile phone by the Americans is at times nothing short of hilarious.

Of course, the Americans bugged her phone – and lots more besides. And, of course, the world's superpower is using all the sophisticated gadgetry of the computer age to find out the best-kept secrets of both friend and foe, all over the globe.
