Now that they're gone we are gonna miss 'em. This week the curtain finally came down on the Clintons as one of America's most enigmatic political partnerships. There was pathos and sadness - and a terrible air of finality in that downtown New York hotel - as a humiliated Hillary Clinton said her goodbye.

Her leave-taking speech was a reminder ​that Donald Trump had outsmarted, outfoxed, and out-talked 'Hill and Bill'. Only a few hours earlier they had veered off being the most powerful duo on the planet. But now swamped in an aura of defeat and rejection they suddenly had the persona of being just another older couple.
