Ibec gives a handbagging to workers on the minimum wage

It seems there's no cash to increase the minimum wage - it's been spent on the Dail gym

Last week I realised I know very little about John Perry. Ex-minister, TD for 18 years. I've been keeping an eye on these matters since shortly after de Valera decided to give up the teaching and chance his arm in the politics business.

Yet, when I came across Mr Perry's name on an RTE website I had to look him up on Wikipedia. Oh, says I, that John Perry. We'll get to John in a moment.

I came across John's name during what astrologers call a "conjunction of significant portents". There was the 50c rise in the minimum wage; the vicious reaction to it; the Oireachtas's new fitness instructor and the reappearance of celebrity property developer Johnny Ronan.
