Gene Kerrigan: Time for our dead wood to start a fire
In perilous times, we can't afford to weaken an already dismal political gene pool, writes Gene Kerrigan
The Government is planning to cut the number of TDs by 20. That would be a mistake. But it's a secondary mistake among many disastrous lurches our leaders are making.
Tomorrow, the Dail has a special sitting, to encourage us all "to re-engage fully with the European Union". That is not a mistake, but it will be if the day is spent sucking up to our Euro overlords, rather than discussing the stark reality of what's being done to this country by "our external partners".
And within weeks we'll be extending a hearty welcome to Mr Barack Obama. If yesterday's shocking Irish Times article by Morgan Kelly is accurate in its reporting, that too would be a mistake.
