Back in January 2006, this column argued in some detail that the then government, headed by Bertie Ahern, was the worst in the history of the State. I
t wasn't a popular position at the time, as Mr Ahern was still widely considered to be some kind of puckish genius. These days, it's a fairly commonplace verdict. We also concluded that the country was so deluded and smug that Ahern's shower would be re-elected in 2007, regardless of their shortcomings -- and so it transpired. (Awesome, right? Tune in next week, we'll give you the winner of the 2012 Grand National).
