Old dogs won't try new tricks even when our very survival depends on them trying, writes Gene Kerrigan

Pat Rabbitte is 62, and so is Joan Burton. Enda Kenny is 60 and Michael Noonan is 68. In fact, seven members of the Cabinet are over the age of 60. And another six are over the age of 50. And that leaves the remaining two Cabinet members (youngsters Leo Varadkar and Simon Coveney) to reflect the rest of the population.
This could be a positive. After all, I'm no spring chicken, and -- as everyone knows -- age has brought me experience, maturity and wisdom, not to mention great physical beauty.
If it was just age we had to worry about, no problem. But this Cabinet is like no other in the modern era -- and not in a good way.
