Gene Kerrigan: Iron man Enda is still no vote magnet
Last week's heated battle won't help the public warm to Fine Gael's inert leader, writes Gene Kerrigan
Which story do you believe? The one about nice-but-dull Enda, who ought to be removed from the leadership of Fine Gael for the good of the party? Or perhaps you believe the one about tough-but-loveable Enda, who was recklessly undermined by a bunch of pushy but blundering Dublin snobs?
Perhaps Soapbox might offer an alternative view?
No matter which story you believe, it takes place against a background of economic devastation and political uncertainty. Fianna Fail in general and Brian Cowen in particular are blamed for the kamikaze economic policies that led to the collapse. Polls show Mr Cowen is slightly less popular than the average genital rash.
