Gene Kerrigan: Amazing adventures of People's Banker
Having mired us in debt, bankers are still trotting out the same insulting nonsense, writes Gene Kerrigan
Let us marvel at the amazing adventures of David Hodgkinson, the People's Banker. It was a busy week for Dave -- the lad was all over the place. To be honest, before last week I'd never noticed Dave. The world is full of permanently suited chaps doing whatever it is they do in their boardrooms, and one can pay attention to only so many of them.
Suddenly, Dave the People's Banker was unmissable -- first presenting his bank's financial results, then addressing his bank's EGM, and later in the week lecturing us from the pulpit of the MacGill Summer School.
A busy week, too, for Susan Denham, our new Chief Justice. The first thing Judge Denham did was waive the €38,000 salary increase she was due on her promotion to the top job in the judging trade. Well done. To top-up an already inflated salary would be unseemly.
