A wise word to the idealistic young folk
Changing the world is easy, changing the Irish political system, that's a lot harder
It was Bobby's Day. That's the first thing you have to understand. There are rituals of the tribe, and they must be observed, no matter how silly they are.
I'm told that, following the marriage equality victory, a whole generation has been politicised. The hills are alive with hordes of optimistic young folk. They've discovered, apparently, that idealism and organisation and hard work can actually change the world.
And their idealism, organisation and hard work did indeed change a small but significant part of our world. So, it ill behoves sceptical old gobdaws of my generation to rain on their parade.
