Gene Kerrigan: I'd love to be a judge, if I had the Latin 

Forgive what might be a silly question, but is this allowed? The Government has made a decision affecting the taxation of judges' pensions -- and the country's most senior judge had a routine private meeting with the Taoiseach, at which the taxation of judges' pay was reportedly raised. In my layman's ignorance, I thought there were rules about things like that? Separation of the powers of the judiciary and the executive? Independence of said powers -- all that stuff? No?
