Fionnan Sheahan: Surrounded by his cronies, Taoiseach has little to fear

IT all makes sense now. Taoiseach Brian Cowen's chief adviser in his cabinet reshuffle was Tanaiste Mary Coughlan. "I had fairly strong conversations over the last two weeks in supporting him and making his decisions."
None of the dead wood was removed from the Cabinet and mediocrity and cronyism appear to have been rewarded by Cowen.
The Tanaiste took to her local airwaves yesterday to explain away her move from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment into the Department of Education and Skills and play down talk of her wanting to escape the criticism of her performance.
