LOUGH Eske in Co Donegal was the unlikely venue for the start of the campaign to make a working-class Dub the President of Ireland.
Just five weeks ago, on the 31st anniversary of their marriage, Gay and Norma Mitchell were attending the wedding of Fine Gael's Dublin regional organiser Colm Jordan to Aisling Hamilton.
At the reception in the Lough Eske Castle Hotel on June 4, the Mitchells were sitting with a group that included ministers Frances Fitzgerald, Alan Shatter and Brian Hayes; former minister Nora Owen; deputies Terence Flanagan and Eoghan Murphy; the party's executive council chairman, Brian Murphy; and councillor Neale Richmond.
