HE'S got some way to go to catch up on Sean Lemass's record of 17 years in the department, but Richard Bruton is taking up where he left off almost a decade and a half ago in the Department of Enterprise, Jobs and Innovation.
The first-floor lobby of the formidable department building on Kildare Street features photos of all the previous incumbents, including Ernest Blythe, William Norton, Jack Lynch, Patrick Hillery, George Colley, Justin Keating, Des O'Malley, John Bruton, Albert Reynolds and Mary Harney.
Back in Lemass's day, it was known as Industry and Commerce and during Bruton's previous stint in the Rainbow coalition of 1994-1997, it was called Enterprise and Employment.
