Eugene McGee: Minnows' main focus firmly on qualifiers

For counties like Longford and Wicklow, who between them have won the Leinster senior football championship just once over the past 127 years or so, there is poor enough interest in their annual first-round game.

Both counties, and others like them, are now more turned on by the All-Ireland qualifiers, where both have got some very good results in recent years. By contrast, Longford have won just one Leinster clash in 10 years.

They should have improved on that in Portlaoise yesterday, when Laois must have used up their annual quota of silly football but somehow still managed to win the game.
