There was a time not so long ago in Gaelic games where referees were hardly ever mentioned.
Of course there was the odd infamous case where major refereeing decisions overshadowed the match -- John Gough from Antrim will be remembered as the man who sent off four players in the 1983 All-Ireland final.
That match was won by the Dublin team later dubbed the 'Twelve Apostles' because they had three players sent off.
