Eugene McGee: €250,000 abandoned report hits bum note

O'Moore Park in Portlaoise is one of the best GAA venues for atmosphere you will find and, as a lifelong fan, I was fascinated to read that the Leinster Council spent €250,000 to have consultants carry out a report on developing the ground.
I assumed the aim was to increase the capacity to around 50,000, which would have allowed Leinster semi-finals and various other high-profile games to be played at this now very central venue.
But apparently the consultants came up with proposals that would leave the capacity at the current 27,000 but would provide a lot more seating. The projected cost was around €15m.
