Eoghan Harris: RTE can claim credit for the surge in Sinn Fein support

Last Monday I was in St Michan's Church for the annual service at the opening of the Michaelmas Law term. So was President Mary McAleese. She looked fresh and feisty and I wished she had a third term.
True, I once called her a tribal time bomb. True, she tried to make my prophecy come true by comparing northern Protestants to Nazis. Since I had taken a lot of stick for "tribal time bomb", I could have argued that her Nazi remark confirmed my misgivings.
But I did not do so. I believe in being fair. I believed it was a slip of the tongue. I believed she was genuine about building bridges with northern Protestants.
