David Robbins: We miss our Polish friend, but maybe she saw us at our best

Karolina came to us the way most Polish people came to work for Irish people: by word of mouth.
We were looking for someone to help look after our new baby, and a neighbour's cleaner said she knew a friend of a friend who might be available.
It was a complicated arrangement -- we needed help for just a few hours a day -- and we were concerned that anyone we hired would soon find full-time work somewhere else.
