David Robbins: Swimming pools: the great levellers of all humanity

Swimming pools and I have never got along. Probably because I was thrown into the deep end of one when I was a child.

I survived my father's "swimming lesson", but things were never the same between me and enclosed bodies of water thereafter.

Then came the endless school holidays when I was given 25 pence and packed off to Blackrock Baths for the day.
