Cards on the table. I can make no sense of some of the answers Judge Kevin Cross, head of the Referendum Commission, has been giving in response to certain questions about the marriage referendum on various radio stations.

For example, on Newstalk on Wednesday, he was asked whether the referendum would redefine the family, and he said it would not.

He was then asked if it would redefine marriage and he described that as a "matter of nuance and opinion".
