When will the two-year old turnaround in the economy be felt in people's pockets and purses? That question has been posed for quite some time - around kitchen tables, in offices, farms and factories and by anyone with even the most passing interest in economics and politics.

Finally, and after far too long, it looks as if the recovery is starting to deliver for working folk.

Yesterday morning at 11am, new statistics on wages and salaries were published. They were little short of remarkable, and they provide the best evidence to date that the recovery is starting to make a tangible difference to the lives of lots of people.
