Colum Kenny: Count me out of this cynical exercise
Colum Kenny explains why he will not be casting either of his two votes in this Seanad election

I HAVE two votes in the current elections for Seanad Eireann, but will be casting neither of them. Most people have none. Each TD and local councillor has at least five.
My postman is burdened with piles of propaganda from the candidates. Taxpayers pay for its delivery, but most have no say in the outcome.
I have decided not to vote because the Seanad as it stands is largely a waste of space. The process of filling its futile seats is a cynical exercise by the political parties that just weeks ago spoke of reforming it. There is no sign of reform in the way that they are now acting.
