Colum Kenny: A public fire sale could cost us more
Reforming our State bodies rather than wrecking them is the way to go in terms of what will work best for the country, says Colum Kenny

SACK the semi-state boards? Sell off the family silver? Privatise the ESB or An Post, and all other publicly owned bodies? Not unless we want to throw good money after bad.
We should hasten slowly when it comes to dismantling some pillars of the Irish State. In the middle of a crisis, panic is not the best policy.
Those who want every public body preserved and those who want them all privatised both miss the point. And the point is that we need to do what works best for Ireland. An ideological battle between Left and Right could leave us worse off in terms of jobs and state revenue.
