Colm O'Rourke: Royals would be very foolish to ignore the warning signs

Meath's surprisingly easy win over Dublin was not without its downsides for Colm O'Rourke

It was certainly raining goals in Croke Park last Sunday, five to Meath and a pasting for Dublin. Another name added to the list of teams that have beaten Dublin heavily over the last few years.

This time round the supporters have lost the faith while Pat Gilroy is very firmly caught between a rock and a hard place. What team to select now? A completely new side faltered against Wexford and a mixture of new and old last Sunday were beaten a long time before the end. I would not envy Gilroy his job. Apart from being short half a dozen players with a bit of class, they don't even make up for it by working hard enough at being a team.

Naturally, the mood in Meath is upbeat. Nine years is a long time to wait for a victory over Dublin but the manner of the win, despite the comprehensive appearance on the scoreboard, has rung a lot of alarm bells for me.
