Colm O'Rourke: Armagh will test substance of Down's upward surge

Today's Division 2 final should be a very informative affair, says Colm O'Rourke

I n case you haven't noticed, the Allianz Football League finals are on in Croke Park today. If you want to go, don't worry about being knocked down in the rush as a crowd of 25,000 would not be bad at all. That might seem very conservative, but Cork will bring about 50 and Mayo a few thousand, while the bulk of the attendance will be from Armagh and Down.

In fact, if these counties were in the Division 1 final, it would make the big game even more attractive, but there will be no shortage of effort, even if Armagh have been making a big play on their preparations being more focused on their upcoming championship match against Derry.

The best way to prepare for the championship is to play games and the more competitive the better. If not for this match, both sides would be scouring the country looking for a suitable challenge match so I expect this game will be flat out from the start.
