Getting older is boiled-frog syndrome. They turn the heat up so gradually you don't notice. You look at yourself every day and you look more or less the same as you did yesterday.

By the time you apply your own various internal filters, the filters of delusion, which are better than anything you'd get on Instagram, you can even convince yourself some days that you look a bit younger.

Then, every now and then, you get a jolt and suddenly everything comes crashing in, the scales fall away and you see the cumulation of years of excess and decay. But happily, then, your survival instincts kick in, the filters go back on and you reckon you're doing very nicely.
