Brendan Keenan: Reality check must not be ignored
Every attitude and practice of the last 10 years, not just those in banking, needs to be abandoned, writes Brendan Keenan
SHORT of still being cut off by snow, one could hardly have failed to notice the air traffic controllers' stoppage. But it would have been easy to miss a smaller item which has a bearing upon it.
This was the acknowledgment by IDA Ireland that some foreign investments had been postponed. Whether postponements end up as cancellations, we shall have to wait and see.
This is not unexpected, given what has happened to the global economy. More important -- although also not unexpected -- is the second reason given by IDA: damage to Ireland's reputation.
