THE simplest way of coming at all this perhaps, is to assume that it all works out as planned.
Well, at least there is a plan, and one with lots of numbers in it too. Past government interventions in the banking system were costly, but they also reacted to worsening events and there was shortage of information as to what exactly was going on.
The excuse was that nothing should be said which would damage confidence in the banks. That became increasingly lame as the years went by and confidence evaporated. Other figures yesterday showed deposits still leaving the Irish banking system.
