YOU may have heard the old joke about the tax dodger called in by the Revenue, who wonders what he should wear. Smart suit and brazen it out, or unwashed, scruffy and plead poverty? It makes no difference in the end, he is told; he is done for anyway.
(There is a rude bit in the middle which makes it funny, but you'll have to take my word for it).
The Government seems to be in a similar dilemma when it comes to the bailout interest rate, burning bondholders or, even more important politically, the 2012 Budget.
