Brendan Keenan: Decisive action has to be taken to end this crisis

IT is unlikely that many of our European partners have heard of 'Lanigan's Ball' but they certainly know how to do the stepping-in and stepping-out which was part of that famous dance.

No one has had to do more fancy footwork that Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel. Like other leaders, she is now running out of moves.

As the risks grow, others feel obliged to join the dance. In an extraordinary development, the US finance minister, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, will attend the meeting of EU finance ministers in Poland.
