Yes, pylons will raise health concerns – but these must be put into perspective

I'm sometimes asked am I for pylons, or against pylons. The short answer is 'neither'. The longer answer goes like this. I need electricity. I use electrical power every day, and it is essential to my work, and my home. The power gets to my house, from the power station, through power lines.

The right question, I think, is how best to achieve this, and the answer is going to come, mostly, from electrical engineers, and from EirGrid.

However, some parts of power distribution are controversial, especially the big, high-voltage pylons.
