WHAT to make of the forthcoming cabinet reshuffle? A carefully and imaginatively plotted move to give the Government a bit of new life and enable it to stay in office for another two years? Or a last throw of the dice by a Taoiseach who has no better ideas and who knows that too many backbenchers have no faith in the present line-up?
I incline to the latter view, but like everybody else I will have to wait and see whether he has the courage, the political intelligence and the authority to do it right and make it work.
It won't be easy. He starts with a handicap, namely that both the minimalist and maximalist approaches to the exercise are effectively ruled out.
